Term paper theme possibility: Existentialist analysis of the citizens of Oran's lives

Camus is considered an existentialist writer. The Plague can be taken very literally, or it can be analyzed as a philosophical novel.
According to the free dictionary the existentialist philosophy is a 20th-century philosophical movement chiefly in Europe that assumes that people are entirely free and thus responsible for what they make of themselves.
This theme will give me a wide array of things to analyze and write about. The people in Oran before during and after the plague. The people of Oran as individuals. A person before and during a lethal disease.

  1. I think that is a great idea because it gives you a lot of material to cover. But it may be hard to cut down the material/possibilities for the paper given that the topic is so broad. I agree, I think the plague is intended to be taken both literally and philosophically. Philosophically you have basically no limits on what your paper can be about - people's reactions to times of hardship (such as plague) can be analyzed throughout history.

  2. Vero I agree with Lauren, your topic allows you to write about a wide range of concepts and ideas, but like she said there is so much you can write about that you probably should narrow it down. Find one or a few topics that tie together and talk about those otherwise you risk running off on tangents. By selecting a few points you will be able to keep your paper more concise.
